Who wants fried worms?

When you work with kids, if you act stupid, silly, or crazy, they love you. Its not really that difficult to keep their attention if you can jump smoothly between serious be-careful talk and "ahhahahah!! I'm a big silly monster trying to steal your ball!!" Be sure to throw the word silly into about every third sentence. And when you give them snacks make sure to refer to the snack (always goldfish) as fried worms, or anything that is not what they are actually eating.

Nannies are better than parents. Even on the upper west side, right around 5th avenue, parents scream at their children. Perhaps that is why most of them hire nannies to take their kids to and from activities, school, life... Every so often there will be a really great Mom or Dad whose child adores them and wants to do such a good job playing soccer listening to every word the coaches say. But usually spoiled kids come with spoiled parents and they are both hard to deal with, yet together, one of them will throw a tantrum.

The other day, I assisted in coaching a class which included a distracted brother and sister. The mom sat blankly on the sideline yelling at her children to "PLAY SOCCER". The little girl wandered over near her mom and as I approached to gently encourage her to join the rest of the kids, the mother yelled, "Just PICK her up by her hair and DRAG her out there." As quickly as I could I rescued the little girl, scooping her up and trying to get her excited about our next game. Yikes. Those kids will probably hate soccer. Thank God for nannies.

In other news:
Doing some part time work for Redeemer Pres.
Adam and I will join Brian, our temp roommate, working at a restaurant.
Pondering the afterlife. I'm not afraid of death. I'm scared of dying.
Trying to make ends meet.
AROD bought new shoes. They are grey, not black. Yes... Amazing.
New images on the way.

Drawings.

Hello people. I went to a figure drawing class and did some drawings. It was quite refreshing to just draw for a couple hours, especially working with the human figure.

The lines and shapes that make up the visual presentation of our bodies is so beautiful, regardless of social conceptions of the body. It is amazing to me, the way we are made, and it hits me anew each time I attend a figure drawing class.

I think the distinction between nude and naked should be noted. Images that show half naked people, unclothed people among clothed people or people undressing whether purposefully or not, project an idea of being exposed and can even be shameful. Look to Manet's Le Dejeuner Sur L'herbe.

There is a distinct difference between this and say Michelangelo's Acorn Boy:

That said, whether you have an aesthetic mind or not, I hope you can view these drawings critically.
