Grounded: red velvet
Its Tuesday morning. I got up at 7 today which I try to do as little as possible but this morning I wanted to go to a coffee shop and check mail before I intern for my artist friend cheryl. We will be making a table and running a couple errands for her new studio.
I'm at "Grounded", a bright, hip, trendy coffee shop in the West Village. As I walked in this morning, a camera man was instructing a scarfed guy on the red velvet couch to drink his tea.
On a wall across from the bookshelf, 5 black paintings hang with white wedding dresses centered. Various ridiculous objects protrude from them. Text on one canvas says "A tooth is wed". A tooth in a wedding dress stands nearby... I don't know why I am describing these. I don't even find them very interesting.
A poem from the bookshelf:
Bliss is the the plaything of the child --
The secret of the man
The sacred stealth of Boy and Girl
Rebuke it if we can
-Emily Dickinson
Sometimes, I think its my right to be comfortable.
Is the red velvet couch really worth anything if I'm not grateful for it, but think I deserve it?
